Driving on those raw NZ roads

Although you don't need to have a special license to drive on NZ roads, you do need to take extra care and be aware of the difference in road rules and driver behaviour. Thankfully, they drive on the left. Now, driving in Britain, I hope you already abide by this rule. However, there are some differences in the Give Way rules which catches foreigners out all the time! Make sure you're familiar with 'the Kiwi way' before embark on the journey of a lifetime.  

While cruising the winding paths and long straights you are sure to experience majestic scenes of rugged mountainous terrain, vast spaces of tussock coated plains and river beds laced with ice cold currents.

At your own leisurely pace, exploring the quiet asphalt or gravel back roads you may be delayed by sheep or cattle crossings. The farmer will be present. The farmer will see you want to get through. But will do nothing about it. Patience is a virtue. 

Although New Zealand is a small country, you can't quite walk around it in a day. Distances can be deceiving, as a lot of roads wind into huge climbing mountains or twist around cliffs and curbs which make for a strenuous drive.
