Whale jaw is what happens to tourists and spectators when they spot their first whale. Jaws drop open, pupils enlarge and an all encompassing 'aahahhhh' and 'oooohhh' drifts around the catamaran. I am in awe of whales. Imagine seeing something as huge as a Boeing 737 slip silently into the depths of the Kaikoura canyon below. Whale watching in Kaikoura gives you this jaw-dropping opportunity.
Just off the Kaikoura shoreline is the place to see the giant Sperm whale, Pilot and humpback whales, Southern Right whales, Orca dolphins, pods of Hector and Dusky dolphins as well as the New Zealand Fur seal or Albatross. Every trip is unique, depending on the season. Blue Whales have been known to make an appearance, but the trusty Sperm whale can be seen all year round. This whale is giant! If you thought the giant squid was big, the Sperm whale eats giant squid for breakfast - literally. The Sperm whale was said to be the whale which took Paikea, the original Whale Rider, to New Zealand from the Pacific Islands back in the day. His descendants are said to still live in Kaikoura to this day, so keep an eye out!
Kaikoura whale watch can be booked all year round through Discover the World. The tours begin and end at the Kaikoura Railway Station and departs up to 4 times daily (except Christmas day), subject to sea conditions. Prices start from £57.00 per person. Alternatively, view the beasts of the sea from the sky with the Wings over Whales tour from £60.00 per person.

it is beautiful. I wish I can see them in person one day.
